THANDO WALBAUM (percussion & backing vocals)
Thando Walbaum, born in Hamburg (1985), was discovered as an acting talent at a young age at the TASK Schauspielschule Hamburg. His career as an actor took off quite early in his life, resulting in roles for many German movies and sitcoms.
Besides his acting he celebrates his South African roots through his love for and commitment to music and percussion. He was a member of the band Dube lead by his parents, and is very active playing traditional South African Township music. He is also active as a facilitator of music workshops for children.
Thando has -in the two years he’s been involved with The Baarn Project- become indispensable — both as a musician and as a person. His rhythm and musical sensitivity permeates the sound and atmosphere the band brings to life in performances and recordings.
Thando in his own words: ‘If I play music, it is not about me. Music exceeds human presence and connects us in a spiritual way. My workshops with children show how beneficial music can be. I am grateful for the connection I feel through music. And that counts for The Baarn Project as well. If the band has a great time performing, it ignites good things in the audience. We have a lot of fun all the time!’
